Administration Approves Sixth Offshore Wind Project

The interior secretary highlights the clean energy goals and jobs that will be created.

The Department of the Interior has announced the approval of the Empire Wind offshore energy project, the sixth wind project advanced by the president’s administration. Empire Wind US LLC plans to develop two offshore wind facilities, located approximately 12 nautical miles south of Long Island, N.Y., and about 16.9 nautical miles east of Long Branch, N.J.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) anticipates these projects, featuring 147 wind turbines, to create a total capacity of 2,076 megawatts to provide renewable energy estimated to power over 700,000 homes annually.

“Today’s approval of the sixth offshore wind project adds to the significant progress towards our Administration’s clean energy goals. Together with the labor community, industry, Tribes, and partners from coast to coast, we will continue to expand clean energy development in a manner that will benefit communities,” said Secretary Deb Haaland.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for U.S. energy officials as they seek to increase renewable sources of energy.
  • For Secretary Haaland to be directed by the Lord as she heads the Interior Department.
